The ban includes the use of hand held devices such as cell phones, laptops, DVD and MP3 players and GPS devices.
The ban does not include the use of two way radio or cb radio devices, as these will be phased out over the next three years. Any of these devices can be used if securely fastened close to the driver and reachable without changing driving position, this can be achieved by mounting these devices to the front dash or cup holders of vehicles. This can also be achieved by having vehicles equipped with hands free technology.
Remember, GPS devices must be programmed prior to your trip commencing and MP3 players must be plugged into the car stereo and programmable from the vehicle controls.
To use your cell phone in the vehicle, you must either have a hands free device or be pulled over out of the way of traffic. This means pulling to the shoulder or into a parking lot.
Being stopped at a red light or pulling slightly to the right so that other vehicles can get around you is not acceptable. Exemptions are made for people calling 9-1-1 and for emergency personnel.
